I’ve been thinking a lot about the creative miracle of communication lately. And I use the words “creative miracle” intentionally. It really is.

What else would you call a phenomenon that God created, that allows one being to communicate their inmost thoughts, ideas, and feelings through…

  • A biological organ we call the brain, forming those thoughts into electrical impulses…
  • Sending those impulses to the biological structure we call “vocal chords”…
  • Directing those vocal chords to vibrate according to a learned system of grammatical strcuture…
  • To create varied SOUNDS to represent those meanings…
  • To travel across airwaves according to principles of PHYSICS…
  • To enter a complex biological structure we call the “ear”…
  • Which vibrates according to the sounds it has received to create electronic impulses, which it sends to the brain…
  • Which translates those impulses into meaning, according to the same learned system of grammatical structure…
  • Which it then interprets into meanings to ponder, understand, and feel…

Thus, one being “communes” with another through this miracle of “communication.”

The same “communing” happens through the written word, according to a similar pattern that includes visual and symbolic representations of meaning.

By both means, auditory and visual, we experience the Word of God.

That means that we are COMMUNING with the God of the Universe every time we open and read and understand His written Word.

The Word of God is worthy of our respect because it is the words OF GOD. Never take that for granted.
