Take every opportunity of humbling yourself before God and man. ~ Andrew Murray

Those words jumped off the page at me this morning as I read Murray’s life-changing book, “Humility.” It was his commentary on James 4:10.

“God gives grace to the humble. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He shall exalt you.”

At times Murray’s words seem a bit extreme, like here where he says, ” every opportunity.” But as I’ve interacted with his writing over the course of years, I’ve come to trust that like any practiced author, he writes exactly what he means.

My ONE responsibility is to take EVERY opportunity to humble myself.

That’s the opposite of how I’ve trained myself to function. Changing it will be the task of a lifetime that will never be completed.

But as with every command of Father God, He provides the grace to pull it off.
